Re. “Crime Against Humanity.”
Dear Mr Ban KI-Moon,
We, the Oromo communities around Melbourne, Australia would like to bring to your close attention our grave concern regarding the atrocity that has been inflicted upon the Oromo people by the current Ethiopian Regime.
Even, before formation of the country Ethiopia in the Horn of Africa, people lived in harmony sharing and respecting their religion and human dignity for centuries. Before that our ancestors believed in one God and lived together in peace and harmony for years. After adapting the modern religions Christianity and Islam, did not caused any problem the past years. But currently the Oromo’s killed, tortured, arrested and disappeared, at large by the current TPLF/EPDRF regime creating reasons and conflicts among Nations and Nationalities. The current Ethiopian regime created conflict between the Gumuze nationality and Oromo people in State border demarcation by supporting the other side but in the contrary by disarming the Oromo people to make victim of the incident in western Oromia, Wallega region. Since then more than 200 people were killed mostly defenceless children and women, and hundreds of thousands have become victims of displacement nearly 30,000 were displaced in the attack of May 07, 2012 in Ebantu county and Abay peninsula in East Wallaga, Oormia region. The conflict is still going on with support of federal Government forces. By aggravating the situation and changing its mode and characters the current TPLF/EPRDF regime with the strange attack on the Gedab Asasa Oromo Muslims community in Arsi region, south Eastern Oromia, one of the many incidents those happened during the Friday prayer time. At least four people were murdered /killed/ and about eight others wounded after Ethiopian Security fired shots at Muslim Worshipers. About 222 people were arrested and are charged by the allegation of terrorism and the city is still under military control.
The current Ethiopian regime strategy has been always creating conflicts among different: religions, organizations, institutions, and among nations and nationalities ruled for more than two decades. We believe that it is cover up the recent of Friday 27/04/2012 during the usual prayer time on Oromo Muslims community at Asasa city in the Arsi Zone of Oromia Region was against Universal Declaration of Human Rights Article 18 which indicates, “everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion, this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.” Reference, Appendix B: Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The Oromo communities in Melbourne, Australia strongly condemned this cruel and barbaric act on Oromo Muslims and other believers and those behind the shooting and killing must be brought to justice. Also we are looking the action of the current regime as an attempt of decrease population in Oromia because the incident continues one after the other by blackmailing them upon our non-defenceless people.
Therefore, the Oromo communities in Melbourne would like to ask the United Nations, Australian Government, US State Departments, EU, Amnesty International, etc that the Oromo Muslims and others even non Muslim believers are under high risk for practicing their religion, thoughts, expression of their opinions based on their democratic rights in Ethiopia, so to put diplomatic pressure on this regime and take immediate action to save our defenceless people. The regime is fully responsible for what caused in human and materials loss, also destabilising the Horn of Africa. The Oromo Communities in Melbourne, Australia want to hear from you reflective respond against this brutal regime in Horn of Africa. Thank you for giving us your attention.
Sincerely yours,
Mr. Tesfaye Wayessa.
Chairman Melbourne Oromo Community.
